Born on June 8, 1908, Canabarro became the world's oldest person after 116-year-old Tomiko Itooka, a Japanese, died in January this year.
According to LongeviQuest, Ms. Canabarro was the 15th oldest person ever recorded and the second oldest nun, after Lucile Randon, a French national, who died in 2023 at the age 118.
After Ms. Canabarro's death, the title of "Oldest person in the world" now belongs to Ms. Ethel Caterham, a 115-year-old British woman, according to the LongeviQuest database.
