(VOVworld) - The fourth ASEAN Chief Justices' Roundtable on the Environment convened in Hanoi on Saturday to discuss the role and vision of courts of justice in environment protection.

The conference is a venue for chief justices to exchange their experiences in adjudicating environmental legal cases and the role they play in championing environmental justice, and effective solutions to control challenges to the environment. Chief Judge of the Supreme People’s Court of Vietnam Truong Hoa Binh said at the event:
“I hope that the exchange of experiences among member countries will help us better understand how to apply laws and legal precedents on the environmental legal cases. Cooperation among ASEAN courts of justice and efforts by the bloc’s members in building a legal system will handle disputes over the environment more properly.”
At this meeting, participants spent much time on debating the Jakarta Common Vision, the Hanoi Joint Action, the deforestation, illegal timber exploitation, transportation, and trading, as well as the smuggling of wild animals.
