(VOVWORLD) - The Centre for Cultural and Scientific Activities of the Temple of Literature, Hanoi, has launched a digital heritage experience project called “Việt Nam Diệu Sử (Marvels of Vietnamese History)”. It integrates artificial intelligence with augmented reality, a technology that overlays virtual elements onto the real world.

Visitors can try the free application at three AR experience points – “Village School Classroom”, a simulation of traditional learning spaces and teaching methods; “Candidates Going to the Imperial Exams”, a vivid recreation of the solemn atmosphere of the imperial examination halls; and “Triumphant Return”, a re-enactment of the ceremonial procession to honor new doctoral laureates upon their return to their home village.

Two young visitors are excited about what they have experienced.
“I was really impressed because the scenes in the app and the real surroundings are so different. I felt like I was stepping into the role of an old scholar teaching students. The imagery is very realistic. You can even see the characters’ expressions. It’s fascinating.”
“What impressed me most is the use of AI in cultural heritage preservation. It brings Vietnamese heritage closer to the public and makes people more excited to explore our culture. This experience helps me picture the old settings more clearly, especially the era of the Confucian scholars, making the past feel more relatable.”

At each augmented reality point, the site provides specialized display screens for visitors. They can also download a free “Việt Nam Diệu Sử” app and explore it on their own device.
Project advisor Truong Quoc Toan talked about upcoming developments: “In the future, we’ll release upgraded versions that will allow visitors to explore a fully digitized map of the Temple of Literature, even before setting foot there. We’ll also integrate an AI chatbot, a virtual tour guide – for example, a friendly ‘Doctor Turtle’ – who can assist visitors in multiple languages.”
