The Associated Press and Nikkei news agency reported that 1,600 delegates are attending Vietnam’s Party Congress. They pointed out that Vietnam is one of very few countries that achieved a positive GDP growth rate (2.9%) in 2020 thanks to its effective measures against COVID-19.

The Korean Broadcasting System (KBS) and Yonhap news agency said the Vietnamese government is targeting an annual GDP growth rate of 6.5%-7% during the next five years.

The Latin American press also highlighted the opening of the Congress. The website of Telesur stressed the event’s theme of “Solidarity, Democracy, Discipline, Creativity and Development”, and mentioned that this Congress drew a record number of delegates. Infobae’s website and Argentina’s TN television channel also covered the event.

Several Indonesian newspapers greeted Vietnam’s 13th National Party Congress with stories on the Party’s past achievements. One article mentioned that the delegates meeting in person demonstrates Vietnam’s success in controlling the COVID-19 pandemic. The Kompas newspaper praised Vietnam’s economic progress toward its goal of becoming a developed country by 2045.
