At a meeting in Hanoi on Tuesday with Timor-Leste President Jose Ramos-Horta, who is in Vietnam for the ongoing 2025 ASEAN Future Forum, Mr. Lam reaffirmed Vietnam’s support for Timor-Leste’s accession as a full member of ASEAN.

Both leaders agreed to establish new bilateral cooperation mechanisms aligned with their countries' evolving needs and boost cooperation in agriculture, fisheries, food processing, telecommunications, education, among others.

President Ramos-Horta underscored Timor-Leste’s commitment to strengthening ties with Vietnam and called for closer collaboration in investment, finance, infrastructure development, tourism, and information and communications. He also expressed appreciation for Vietnam’s experience in human resource development, food security, and poverty reduction, hoping for continued support in these areas.

The Timor-Leste leader also affirmed his country’s full support for Vietnam’s candidacy in multilateral organizations, including United Nations agencies.
