National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man speaks at a seminar reviewing the legislature’s operations over the past 80 years, Hanoi, September 9, 2025.

Speaking at a seminar in Hanoi reviewing 80 years of the legislature, Chairman Man noted that the body has effectively exercised its constitutional, legislative, oversight, and decision-making functions, having promulgated five constitutions, 567 laws, 236 ordinances, and thousands of resolutions that provide a vital legal foundation for national development.

Oversight activities, he stressed, have been continuously strengthened and innovated.

A review of the National Assembly over the past 80 years will help improve its performance, ensuring it continues to accompany the nation in advancing firmly into a new era, Chairman Man said. “Party General Secretary To Lam emphasized that the legislature must ‘move one step ahead in institutional building; dare to open new paths, adjust existing ones, and make decisions on difficult, unprecedented issues.’”
