“The American side has issued an official note granting agreement for the appointment of Alexander Darchiev, director of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s North American Department, as the new Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the United States,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Friday.
Russian and US officials met on Thursday in in Istanbul, Turkey, on normalizing the activities of the two countries' diplomatic agencies, where the US side sent an official note confirming the approval of the new ambassador appointment.
The consultation meeting also discussed ensuring the smooth operation of the two countries' diplomatic agencies. At the meeting, the two sides agreed on financial assurance measures for the operations of the embassies and looked at the working conditions of diplomats of the two countries. Russia and the US agreed to continue dialogue through this channel in the future.
