According to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Russian-US talks in Saudi Arabia on February 18 resulted in an agreement to ensure the prompt appointment of the Russian ambassador to the US and the US ambassador to Russia.
After meetings in Istanbul, Türkiye, on February 27 on normalizing relations, primarily aimed at restoring full diplomatic missions, Washington sent Moscow a note agreeing to the appointment of Aleksandr Nikitich Darchiev.
Russia hadn’t had an ambassador to the US since the previous ambassador Anatoly Antonov ended his term in Washington in October, 2024.
