The opening ceremony featured cultural performances and spectacular motorcycle demonstrations. Then delegations from 168 communes and wards, along with two delegations from the municipal Military Command and Police, marched past the grandstand. It was followed by the procession of the national flag and the festival flag, carried out by city leaders and outstanding athletes.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Manh Cuong said that the large-scale sporting event promotes the physical training movement following the example of President Ho Chi Minh, and contributes to the development of high-performance sports.
“From the festival momentum, we will continue to promote the physical training movement, improve health, and build a comprehensively developed, dynamic, courageous, and ambitious citizen. By doing so, we will meet the needs of building and developing Ho Chi Minh City in the new era,” Cuong added.
The Ho Chi Minh City Sports Games will run until June. The best athletes will be selected to compete in the 10th National Sports Games, which will take place in Ho Chi Minh City later this year.
