The top legislator delivered a statement at the general debate of the 152nd Assembly of (IPU-152) in Istanbul, Turkey, where he praised the IPU-152 theme of “Nurturing hope, securing peace and ensuring justice for future generations” for conveying a message that is both timely and urgent for countries.
Chairman Man said Vietnam is determined to confidently and self-reliantly enter a new stage of development, aiming to become a developing country with modern industry and upper middle income by 2030, and a developed country with high income by 2045.
Vietnam is implementing a new growth model, using science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation as driving forces, while ensuring social equity and sustainable environmental protection so that people can better enjoy the fruits of development, he added.
With its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation, and development, Vietnam has worked actively, proactively, and responsibly with friends and partners in resolving common regional and international issues.
The top legislator stressed the need to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy, promote dialogue, build trust and friendship among nations; prevent and resolve the root causes of conflict; and respect the fundamental principles of international law and the UN Charter.
“In this spirit, together with other IPU members, we strongly call on all parties concerned to seriously observe ceasefires and continue peace negotiations to seek satisfactory, sustainable solutions to ongoing conflicts. We urge parliaments to play a leading role in creating legal frameworks and internalizing international commitments, especially those on peace, security, sustainable development, climate change response, and non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction; and to exercise supreme oversight over the implementation of international commitments.”
National Assembly Chairman Man expressed his belief that solidarity, sharing, and cooperation will help nations overcome challenges together to build a brighter future.
