Addressing a meeting between ASEAN and the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC) held in Vienna on Wednesday, Vietnamese Ambassador to Austria Vu Le Thai Hoang highlighted the close link between the IAEA’s activities and the implementation of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), stressing the need to maintain a balanced approach to non-proliferation, disarmament, and the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
Ambassador Hoang affirmed Vietnam’s readiness to assume the role of President of the 11th NPT Review Conference in April 2026, approaching the responsibility with objectivity, responsibility, and a commitment to fostering constructive dialogue through broad consultations with regional groups, member states, and GRULAC.
According to the Vietnamese Ambassador, ASEAN will continue working closely with GRULAC to uphold the integrity of the treaty and ensure adequate attention to development aspects, especially Pillar III on the peaceful use of nuclear energy, including technology access, capacity building, and technical cooperation through the IAEA.
